The TMEA (Texas Music Educators Association) Clinic/Convention is more than just a date on the calendar; it is the heartbeat of music education in the United States. This past February, from the 11th to the 14th, the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio hosted a historic gathering, and Lung Trainers was honored to be a centerpiece of the experience as an official sponsor.
After four intense days of music, learning, and community, we want to share the highlights of this journey and explain why 2026 marks a turning point in performance breathing.
The Epicenter of music education
With thousands of artists, students, and educators filling the halls, the exhibit floor vibrated with a shared mission: to elevate the standard of performance. At our booth, we didn’t just present tools; we offered solutions to the daily challenges musicians face—fatigue, lack of air control, and tonal inconsistency.
Why TMEA was so significant this year
As a proud Sponsor of the TMEA 2026 Convention, we reaffirmed our commitment to strengthening music education across Texas and beyond. Being surrounded by organizations dedicated to excellence reminded us why we do what we do: a musician’s performance is only as strong as their breath.
The science of breathing: Insights from the booth
Throughout the convention, we conducted hundreds of live demonstrations. The most impactful part was seeing the “lightbulb moment” in musicians’ eyes when they tried the IBA (Individual Breathing Assistant) for the first time.
The 4 pillars we discussed with attendees:
- Tone Stability: Many musicians discovered that their tuning issues on long notes weren’t a lack of talent, but a lack of consistent airflow.
- Unstoppable Endurance: We spoke with band directors concerned about their wind sections’ stamina during long concerts. Resistance-based training is the answer to those grueling marathon rehearsals.
- Projection and Tonal Clarity: Using the IBA, students mechanically understood how to project their sound to the back of the hall without straining their embouchure.
- Reliable Consistency: Intentional training turns “a lucky good day” into a reproducible technique every time you step onto the stage.
Real Experiences: “Feeling is Believing”
Our team spent the week guiding visitors through simple yet powerful breathing strategies. It wasn’t just about the device; it was about the methodology.
We watched world-class educators bring their entire brass sections to our booth to test the Lung Trainers lineup. They realized that the IBA doesn’t replace practice—it optimizes it, preparing the body for the physical demands of modern performance.
Looking Ahead: Your path after TMEA
If we had the chance to meet you in San Antonio, thank you for sharing your passion with us. If you couldn’t make it, our commitment to you remains unchanged. 2026 is the year to stop guessing and start training your breath with intention.
What’s next for you?
- Implement the lessons: Don’t leave those control and endurance strategies behind in Texas.
