What a fantastic event we had in Orlando! We are excited to look back on our participation at the FBA Summer Conference, an energy-filled gathering where we reconnected with band directors, music educators, and talented musicians from across the region.
Taking Breathing Pedagogy to the Next Level
Throughout the conference, our LungTrainers booth became an active learning hub and a space for continuous interaction. Our main goal was to demonstrate, through hands-on practice, how proper breathing training truly transforms musical performance.
Through live demonstrations with attendees, we showcased how using the Incentive Breathing Assistant (IBA) helps refine technique:
1. Airflow Control and Duration
In one of the exercises at our booth, we guided participants through a count of 12 beats of steady exhalation. This exercise allows wind players to experience a uniform, sustained, and controlled airflow—key to maintaining pitch stability and tone quality during long phrases.
2. Efficient Diaphragm Use and Endurance
We also worked one-on-one with students to correct support technique. Exhaling with proper muscle engagement and correctly activating the diaphragm makes an immediate difference in lung capacity and airway openness. It was incredible to see young musicians’ surprise when they noticed a dramatic shift in their stamina after just a couple of guided attempts.
